Inspiring Marketing Lessons from Fearless Young Entrepreneurs

I want to share some heartwarming stories that showcase the incredible marketing efforts of young individuals who, despite their lack of experience, have displayed immense courage and creativity.

Prepare for a dose of feel-good news that will leave you inspired!

One article caught my attention with the headline, "Kids’ brutally honest lawn mowing business sign shows the true art of setting boundaries." (source)

The piece features two middle-school boys who have started their own lawn mowing business.

What sets them apart is the sign they created to promote their services.

While the text in the image might be a bit difficult to read, their flyer includes powerful statements such as:

  • "Only available on weekends (sometimes we will not be able to mow)"

  • "We live near Yorktown High School. Please keep this in mind when hiring because you may live too far away."

  • "Notice: when you text us, please list the jobs that you want done and have the money/payment ready and in cash. Also, send your address."

Additionally, they provide a price list for various lawn jobs, including weeding ($20) and sweeping ($15). As I looked at their advertisement filled with persuasive copy, I couldn't help but marvel at their clarity and specificity. These young entrepreneurs have truly grasped the importance of setting expectations and employing clear communication to attract their ideal customers.

Although they might have misspelled "mowing," their ability to take imperfect action and hang their flyers all around town without noticing the typo is truly impressive. These kids exemplify the concept of perseverance and the courage to keep going despite setbacks.

Now, let me introduce you to another remarkable young man.

Meet Jaylen Smith, the mayor of Earle, Texas, and the youngest Black mayoral candidate ever elected at the age of 18! Jaylen embodies the notion of believing in oneself and relentlessly pursuing one's goals, even in the face of rejection. As Jaylen himself puts it, "I’m kind of a go-getter. When I was in high school, I was always told no, but I always kept pushing it because I knew there was someone that was waiting to tell me yes."

His story provides an abundance of feel-good inspiration and valuable insights into personal branding for optimal public perception.

These kids are truly amazing, aren't they? Despite not having taken any business or marketing classes and without getting caught up in the complexities of technology or perfectionism, they showcase a refreshing simplicity in their approach. They haven't yet become jaded by the world or paralyzed by the fear of visibility. Instead, they simply do what seems logical and practical when you want people to hire you or vote for you:

They let folks know how they can help.

That, my friend, is marketing at its purest.

We can undoubtedly learn a lot from these young entrepreneurs. Their stories serve as reminders of the power of keeping things simple, believing in what you're doing, and putting yourself out there. Not to mention, they highlight the incredible potential for our stories to inspire total strangers, just as theirs have done!

So, let's keep it real and take inspiration from these fearless young individuals as we navigate the world of online business.
